This is the first year of my daughter and I can say that the teachers are excellent. She is in the gift program and she had received all the help she need. The band is phenomenal. The Principal is very accessible and easy to find. I would love more sports programs after school, I am deeply concerned about the insecurity when someone walk in the building . very excited about the new buding for 2015-2016

This is a great school IF your child is in need of remedial or ESL education. If not there are little to no extra curricular activities, clubs, etc outside of soccer and basketball. I have two children in this school one in the gifted program, one in standard classes. Almost all focus at this school is given to improving basic skills and raising performance of lower achieving students. While this is VERY important the average and higher achieving students are assumed to be able to make it and left to their own. Meanwhile they are extremely under served and falling behind. I don't blame the teachers, there are some great ones here In a low income school, it must be assumed that the majority of parents cannot afford nor provide due to being at work, sports, clubs, etc. I went to NY schools where almost every interest had clubs, there was a variety of programs. Here at Summerour, there's soccer and basketball and remedial help. They may no longer be failing the majority of lower performing students but they are certainly failing the rest. My child in gifted who makes A/B's? ZERO communication suggestions etc Child with lower grades/laziness I get reports/discipline info that's it.

I Love Summerour Middle - I have a rising Jr at NHS and now my middle daughter is a rising 6th grader. Summerour teachers and staff are concerned about their school and thier students, they are great motivators and they continually reach out to parents

I am in agreement fully. I have never experienced such a school that a parent could not be or get involved in without resorting to the head principal. Some of the teachers are great but most are in fear of losing their jobs if they do not run everything they do or say by someone else. The school does not promote confidence or moral into the students at all. More could be done to offer information to parents and responses from the teachers and staff in a more timely manner is what this school so desperately needs!

Positives: The teachers will bend over backwards for you and they open the school early for tutoring. They even open the school on Saturdays to let the students use the computer labs and to get extra help. Some negatives: Students are required to be silent in the hallways and there are no pep rallies or school pride days to get the kids excited about Summerour.

I am disappointed relocating from another state to see the degree of non social skill development programs, as simple as sport teams. My association and visits with the school revealed disorganization and confusion to obtain guidance on curriculum, ect., as a new parent. School visits on many occasions were unsecured with no question to my roaming the halls. I attempted to request conferences via email with more than one Teacher and had to aggressively follow up to get a response weeks later. In one instance, the only method of resolution to address academic concerns with one of my student's teacher was to approach the Principal, whereby it was promptly resolved. Several attempts to contact other key personnel were not successful. School test scores may not reflect the sole failue of the students.
