I agree with the majority of reviews regarding the principal. She was very rude during the only interaction I've had with her. Further, she took the opportunity to say that I was disrespectful, even though she was in the wrong. Since then, I've spoken with many parents of current and former students who all agreed that she is simply a rude and disrespectful person who only cares about how the school looks on paper. With all that said, the teachers are wonderful, and my child seems very happy overall. I do wish the school offered more after school programs like other counties. I am surprised that there seem to be none for kids younger than second grade, at least according to the website.

I attend a school luncheon with my son last week and was so impress with the school. The number of parents volunteering overwhelm me because I am not used to that. They were all so helpful, and the teachers were too. So friendly. I can not understand some bad reviews I read. We pleased to have our son here. He likes his school and we do too.

Harris Elementary is a gem. The principal and staff are great. I was worried about reviews I saw on this site before we moved to Duluth, but my worries were unfounded. The principal has high expectations, which is refreshing. Some schools I've been involved with have "leaders" who don't lead, and they accept "average" performance from staff and students. This principal expects greatness, empowers the staff and students to accomplish greatness, and she leads by wonderful example. If a parent isn't happy about something, they should get involved in positive ways to affect change. The school is like a family to my kids, and to me, and I couldn't be more pleased after the horror I expected from a disgruntled post or two on this site. I have helped with some PTA events and found I was much more comfortable at school the more I became familiar with people and procedures there.

Doctor Burton is a bit strict, but nobody is perfect! I am glad my child goes to this school. There was only one mean teacher, Ms. Edwards, and she's retired. They are very against bullying, and Architects of peace also is an anti-bullying program. There is a reason this school is a Georgia School of Excellence.

Its nice to know my other review was taken down when it was the honest truth. :c The current principal is one the worst I have ever met. Other then that I wish there was more honest reviews other then staff pretending to be parents giving high reviews. The school could do with a new discipline policy the one in a effective allows other children to bully another child. As while the bullied child defends themselves and gets the worst of the punishment.

I have 2 children at Harris and they both really enjoy going there. The more involved a parent can be, the better their child's experience will be. But, even if you can only attend an occassional event and pta meeting...do it! Harris is a Title 1 school but is also a School of Excellence. Some friends of mine who were parents moving here from a more affluent school were concerned about the standards of education at Harris. They were pleasantly surprised by the high standards Dr. Burton holds (and consistently receives) for both staff and students.

BB Harris is a GEORGIA SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE. Dr Burton didn't wave a magic wand to make this happen. It happened because of hard work and dedication. The entire staff is committed to educating students and they are GREAT!

As a student, I love waking up every morning and getting ready for school. The staff is wonderful! As a rising 5th grader, I know that my school experience can't get any better. This us the best school your child can go to.

My two boys attend BB Harris. I am not at all pleased with the staff. They can be very rude and seem to be non-caring. Personally I have had issues with my sons teacher and have expressed my concerns. No action was taken. There are very few after school events and extra help. My kids complain about the music teacher. Over all I am sorry my kids have to go to this school and hope to soon move to a better area where the school can motivate.

I have a son in first grade at Harris. My daughter who is now in high school attended Harris grades 3 through 5. I wasn;t pleased with the school before and I'm still not impressed. Some teachers are more involved than others and the principal, well I'll admit I don't care for her at all. She comes across as being rude. My son only goes to Harris because we moved from the Chattahoochee which I prefer over Harris. If I get the opportunity I will move back to Chattahoochee.

some admin staffs are very unpleasant which makes me feel like I am not wanted there even though I am volunteering to help out. most teachers are very well qualified and nice but there are some just you can't understand why they are working there if they don't like kids!(the principal and the music teacher)

This is my students 2nd year at Harris, and I can say that at first I was very Concerned about the school s administration, and we did have an issue her first year. But after watching and the administration interact with the students, I realized that what we have at Harris is a something that is lacking in most schools today and that is Standards. There is a level of quality that is expected and it is produced, that is why Harris won the 2012/2013 School of Excellence. This is something I as a parent want. To improve the school I think we could use more parent involvement, from parents that only want what's best for ALL of the students not just their student.

My children have attend Harris and have been educated by wonderful teachers, they have received professional tutoring from Ms. Koon in her afterschool homework club. I personally volunteered twice a week in my daughter's Kindergarten class for the entire 2011-2012 school year. As a parent volunteer, I did not feel overly welcomed or appreciated by the Admin Staff. I have witness the administrative staff interact differently with many parents and teachers. Harris is an small neighborhood school that could be greatly improved with some changes.

My daughter started her first day here today. She came from a school that was redistricted this year. I was a little upset that she had to move after seeing the bad reviews. I know it is only day one but I meet the principal in the hall today waiting on my daughter for lunch. I didn't see any of these bad things people have said. She seemed very nice even invited me into her office to share some photos. She talked very highly of the school and her staff. She was very friendly and even came over to my daughter at lunch and introduced herself. My daughter came home today happy with the school, teachers and principal.
